XP Pro: Old vs New Shutdown Dialog?

Two PCs, both XP Pro, SP2.

On one, when I hit Ctl-Alt-Delete, I get what I expect: a "Windows Security"
dialog that asks me what I want to do
-------------------
- Lock Computer
- Logoff
- Shutdown
- Task Manager
- Change Password
-------------------

On the other one, Ctl-Alt-Delete just directly pops TaskMan.

Anybody know how to get the middleman back on the second PC?

Some kind of registry setting?

But why/how did they get different in the first place?

I have a dim recollection of specifying "Traditional" or "Standard"
something-or-other on the first PC.....

Sounds like for some reason an extra keystroke is invoking on the one
PC that is not working as expected. ie. the alt-T is being invoked.
Is it possible that the keyboard on the PC not working correctly is
faulty? Try swapping the keyboards to see what happens.

Don't. You can help people without the title and you can recommend their
products and solutions also without the title.

Once you've got the title, you lost the objectivity in front of clients and
prospects and become more like a salesperson, and your mind will be bound by
ONLY for the best interests of the company and its products.

Being an independent and objective professional and spare your time for
helping others. You can do all that without the title.

Just for considerations.

Thanks xfile,

I will take that into consideration. I guess that tag won't make a
difference as to what I already know or don't.
Thanks for the input.

Thats exactly why an individual gets the MVP award. They are independant,
professional, credible and spend their own time helping other people. MVPs
are not salespeople for Microsoft and they do not get any salary from
Microsoft for what they do.

Per Anando [MS-MVP]:
If the Welcome Screen is disabled

Where does that option reside?

There seem to be a number of different places where Windows settings reside -
arbitrarily grouped by somebody.... e.g. right-click My Computer, right-click on
the desktop background, Start|Settings|ControlPanel|System, and so-forth.

I popped My Computer|Properties|Advanced|Startup and Recovery|Settings, but
didn't find anything.

.... Click Start > Run
.... Type "control userpasswords" (without quotes)
.... Click "Change the way users log on or off"
.... Tick "Use welcome screen"

Bingo! I un-ticked "use welcome screen" and got what I wanted.

Thanks.

Mea culpa.

I recalled making the post, but couldn't find it after-the-fact.

That means you are using Web-Based interface. If you like to use that and
want to make things easy for you then open a post from you > click your name
that appears in the body of your message in the From: field > Click "Recent

No it doesn't. Check his headers, and you'll see that he's using the Forte
Agent Newsreader.

If you don't know how to look at message headers, the easiest way to do so
in Outlook Express (which is what I can see from your headers that that's
what you're using) is to press Ctrl-F3.

It wasn't a question of which tool I was using... just that I was too
dumb/addled to recall enough of the subject line to find it again. Spent a good
fifteen minutes slogging through my raw "Sent" area in Agent. I'm sure it's
there... just couldn't find it.

You were looking at the wrong place. I am guessing your question has been
answered by others.

BTW, you don't have to type in cryptic commands in the RUN box next time.
The same user accounts applet can be accessed by navigating to Start >
Control Panel > User Accounts.

Hope that fixed your issues.
