yar

I am trying to repair a friends machine after it was infected with over 600
viruses.

I have one problem that task manager has been disabled?.

Any thoughts on how to enable.

Also anybody know anything about kernels.exe ?

Thanks

Save all important data and reinstall Windows from scratch.

That file does not belong to Windows. It's virus#666, most likely.

600+ viruses? Go out and get a tombstone that says R.I.P. Windows XP. Seriously, after
that much infection, even if you have removed the viruses/worms/malware/adware etc., the
system will probably never run well. There is no telling how much damage has been done,
and where. Back up data files, format the drive and do a clean install of Windows XP. Do
not connect to the internet until you make sure that the firewall is enabled (or before
you install a third party firewall) AND before you install a decent antivirus program.
The first thing that you should do upon internet connection is to update the antivirus
definitions. Then scan the data files which you backed up BEFORE restoring them.
