Task Bar

For some strange reason when I open and close windows such as My Computer
upon the actual closing, my desktop seems to refresh, and then the task bar
at the bottom freezes. Any clues, ideas, settings or fixes?

Thanks

Daddio,

To stop the Desktop refreshing so often, increase the icon cache size:

Click START | RUN
Type 'regedit' (without quotes) & click OK
Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Key Name: 'Max Cached Icons'
Key Type: 'REG_SZ' (string)
Value: '4096'

Just find the 'Max Cached Icons' or create it, double-click it & change the
value.

Exit the registry editor

---------------------

If you are afraid of editing the registry you can copy the following
(between the dashes) into a notepad document:

---------------------------------------------------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"Max Cached Icons"="4096"

---------------------------------------------------------

Click File | Save As
Type a name (including extension) in double quotes. Example: "Icon
Cache.reg"
Change the File Types to 'All Files (*.*)' & click the Save button

Now, double-click the entry & enter it into the registry. Click OK when it
said it was successful

I hope that helps,

I have seen disk space utility checkers do this too. Things like:

Hard Drive Inspector Pro
