Task bar shrinkage

Hello,

I have this weird problem, well, it's more of a nuisance, but still, I'd
like to fix it if possible.
I have moved my task bar to the right of my screen, so that it's vertical
now. It's three "spaces" wide, and with that I mean that I can put 3 icons
next to each other in QuickLaunch.
Unfortunately, whenever I start the computer, Windows shrinks the task bar
by one of these "spaces", and I have to manually resize it. As I said, no big
deal, but I am kind of tired of having to do this.
I tried leaving it alone, but then the next time Windows will shrink it down
to 1 "space", and that's really not good for me.
So, does anybody know what's going on here, and how I can tame the beast?

Thank you.

Niniel,

This is what you need to do:

Click START | RUN | Type 'regedit' (without quotes) & press ENTER

Naviage to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

In the right pane, create the following:

Key Name: TaskbarSizeMove
Key Type: DWORD
Key Value: 0 = locked, 1 = unlocked

Close the registry editor

After setting the taskbar as you like it do you right click on a blank area
and choose Lock the taskbar? If that's not it you could try running edit on
Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 164: Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

Rock,

How will making it default functionality stop it being resized? It won't

As it turns out, locking the taskbar did not do the trick. I didn't edit the
registry, only checked "Lock the taskbar", but it was still locked after I
booted up.

Niniel,

The locking you done stopped the items from being moved around on it. The
registry entry I supplied goes one further

All right, changed the registry entry from 1 to 0... Hopefully that'll put an
end to this.

Editing the registry also did not work.
When I booted up the computer, the taskbar was again down to 2 spaces.
"Taskbar locked" was checked and I couldn't resize it myself, that is, of
course, until I unchecked it. Then the taskbar shrunk to 1 space width, and I
manually enlarged it to 3 again.
Maybe there's some other setting governing this behaviour; locking the bar
obviously is not it.
Too bad.

Did you try running the edit on Kelly's site that I referenced in my first
post to you?

Lol...that's just white noise in background.

Yes, but no success. After I moved the bar from the bottom of the screen to
the right side, and enlarged it, it shrunk again after the reboot.

Hmmm, sorry then, I don't know. Any 3rd party themeing applications
installed?

Could be.
But then again, maybe not. :)
There's way too much interaction between accounts, I wouldn't be surprised
if the reason is that the taskbar settings are different for the various
accounts.

I'm not going to uninstall AG though; it just looks too nice.

It probably wouldn't take to much to remove it to find out. In any event,
good luck and post back if you find a resolution.
