Task bar is covering applications

New PC, WinXPPRo.

All programs, when maximized, are partially hidden behind the taskbar at the
bottom of the program window, so I can't use the horizontal slide bars, etc.

What setting sets the bottom of open applications to meet up with the teask
bar, instead of disappearing behind it?

I do not have auto-hide on the task bar turned on, and don't want it. I do
have dual monitors.

This used to happen to me as well... Is it when the window is open that you
can't use the horizontal scroll bar? Because when that happened to me all I
did was maximize the window and it didn't overlap the task bar... PLUS if you
open the start menu and off to the left of the Log Off button, right click
and choose properties the go to the Task Bar options. You can try un-
checking the "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" box... that might
help.

I tried that - now the applications hide the task bar completely. Back to
the old setting they are still hiding behind it...

Other ideas?

UNlock the taskbar - check Keep Taskbar on top of other windows - UNchweck
Autohide.

That should work.

Strange - when I set my system that way - the task bar is always at the
bottom and when I open and maximize another window, the horiz scroll and
status bar end at the start of the task bar. Tried it on 3 different systems
and it works. There is something else going on with your system. I didn't
try it on my system at home which has dual monitors but it should still
work.

OK - checked it on my dual monitor system - same thing. Window stops where
taskbar starts.

Lock taskbar ON
Autohide - OFF
Keep on top - ON

That's it.
