I recently downloaded IE 6.0 ... whenever the browser is
open the buttons on the task bar that represent each open
window do not show up ... I can scroll through by using
ALT + TAB and switch from one to the other ... start
button and other regulars still appear ...

I use Windows 98 (if that makes a difference) ...

Any suggestions for solving this ???

Have you tried resizing the Task bar? Both vertically and horizontally
but since you say you are seeing a Start button and other signs of
normalcy my guess is that some of your Toolbars have become
oversized.

I think it may. I don't think that Windows 98 has a Task bar Lock.

Experiment. ;) Try right-clicking on the Task bar, select Toolbars and
uncheck all your Toolbars. If that brings the Task bar window icons
back add the Toolbars back one at a time until you discover which
one is oversized; then either leave it unchecked or resize it appropriately.

Good luck
