Task Bar and Start Menu Problems

As an unfortunate receiver of the Sasser worm I chose to format and start all over. After the reload the task bar icons will not hide and the start menu's first six choices are in small lettering. I have tried to hide icons using the task bar and start menu in Control panel with no change. I have updated my computer with all updates from Microsoft updates. I hope it is not a worm that Microsoft has sent me because of the reload. I love how media player mins to a useable taskbar but with the icons not hiding it does not do that. Before the Sasser worm my computer was running great now there are little problems in many areas. I think I will hurt the authors of the worm, if i find them, bad! All my programs are legal and I would appreciate any help

Thank you

Hi Derek,

I will assume you are speaking of the Notification Area. If so, you need to
set the first icon showing to Always Hide and the chevron will re-appear.

With the rest of your post, you have my interest. The Media Player has a
mini-mode toolbar, which minimizes on the Taskbar, not the Notification
Area.

As for the Start Menu, you speak of the first six, these are, relatively
speaking, coined as frequently used programs. As for the text/icon size, it
can be changed by switching to large via Properties/General.
