Tape drive and Windows Backup

We've a 4mm tape drive that under normal use is controled by BackupExec. I
need to do a restore from directry service restore mode and of course
BackupExec won't run. But NtBack up is not accessing the tape.
Is there a way to get the dirve avaiable for NtBackup?
Like on the same machine before BackupExec, NtBackup would read the drive.
I assume I need to reset something, but what?
Anyone know what I am talking about.

Thanks for your time.

This implies that changing the login to the System account will fix
that.
