NTBackup tape utility problem

I run W2K3 and have backupexec runing for my backup, but I also need the
NTBackup for some special tapes.
I can not find a tape when I try to use the NTBackup.
I stop all the services for BackupExec no program is attached to the device,
hardware dev. mngr. tells me the device is working fine. but NTbackup can not
see any tapes to allocate so I could use them including using NEW. It does
not matter what tape I mount, the device goes through the motion to mount the
tape, I also de-installed and re-installed the device, but no change.
What can I do to get a tape allocated for NTBackup?
Any help is well come at this time.

Check if the tape drive is using the generic driver or by the sound of
it the Backup exec one.

That was the issue with NT4 servers in similar circumstances.

Have you checked the tape pools? If you have none in Backup or Free it
won't find one!
