taking pictures off of camera

when i try to take pictures off the SD card for my camera it comes up with a
window that says something like that the door is not closed. I have no door
on the tower where the card goes. It also will delete the pictures and then
when i put it back in the camera it wants me to format the card, but i have
not taken or seen the pictures yet. anybody know what i am doing wrong.

this is what it says excately.

The drive is not ready for use: its door may be open. Please check
drive\device\harddisk1\DR3 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the
drive door is closed

There is a problem with the installation or configuration of the card
reader, or the reader is not compatible with the card you are using, or the
card is faulty or not inserted properly. Can you use other cards from other
sources with the card reader? Can you use other cards from this camera with
the card reader?

The message about the door is simply a suggestion that doesn't apply in your
case.
