My daughter's computer is very, very slow to boot up... I had Windows XP
Reinstalled last year. I defragmented, spybot, removed norton internet
secuirty, registry fix, had someone else look at it but to no avail... I
even added some memory.

I wouldn't care that much except that when she does have problems with her
cable internet, they tell her to fix something and then shut down her
computer and it takes forever ( well approximately five minutes) to boot up
so they hang up and she calls back or they get impatient...

I have removed the start ups in MSCONFIG...

Tried everything I think on this site... dont know where to go next?

Could someone help me PLEEEEAAAASSSSE?

As well as the startup tab in msconfig, also have a look on the Services tab
& check "Hide Microsoft Services" to see how many 3rd party services you
have starting up

Have you checked the System & Application Event Logs ?
Excessive startup (beyond Startups & Watchdogs) is usually some
kind of Service Time Out. The event logs should help you to see
if that's the case.
Click Start, Run (Type) EventVwr.Msc [Enter]
Select the appropriate log in the Left Pane and then scan the
chronological listing in the Right Pane, looking for Red Icons that
denote errors.

You need someone skilled/qualified & experienced to take a
look at the PC. To me it sounds like it needs a thorough check up.

Is she seeming to have frequent internet connection issues? If so the
problem could be hardware related. Have you tried a different NIC?

Hi, this is what I have under the services Tab. Does not seem excessive.

avg 7 alert manager
avg update service
Machine Debug Manager and
ISEXNG

dOES THAT HELP?
tHANKS, WILLING TO TRY ALMOST.... ANYTHING

Well, the one that sticks out there as a bit odd is the "ISEXNG", unless you
happen to know what program it is related to. Try unchecking it to see if
that speeds up your boot.

I have seen this behaviour caused by having an unpowered USB attached
during bootup, if not true in your case, run bootvis, this should give you
a clue as to what is holding up the process.

Hello, tried everything as well as bootvis right now....

I have a photo scanner, webcam as well as my printer thats plugged into a
Belkin USB port and then plugged in to computer.... Are you saying that if
the photo scanner or other is turned off, it may confuse my computer?

Yeah I unplugged by Belkin usb ports and windows only took less than a minute
to load up!!!!!

How can something so stupid take so many of hours of my time ?????
Thanks a million....

Glad it's all sorted out , bootvis gave me the clue as to what was
hanging the boot process [usbstor.sys was the culprit in my case].
You may have better luck with a powered hub, but do get a good
quality one.

Depending on your BIOS, check to see if you have an option that tries to
boot/access USB devices on bootup.
Dell systems do. HP Printers have a problem if this is enabled as well.

Sorry for the typo in my original reply, I should have made it clear
that it was an unpowered hub that I was refering to, not an unpowered
device.
Bootvis confirmed this as the culprit, once the unpowerd hub was
disconnected boot time returned to an accepable level.
