Take the ownership

We have a computer that was installed for an ex-staff. The ex-staff is now
replaced by a new one. We added a new account as a member of the company
domain. However, the new user cannot access some old files on the C drive
and all files on D drive although he has administrator right. Can someone
advise how to take up all the ownership of ex-staff by the new staff and get
rid of the old staff completely on the computer. Your advice is
appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

Open My Computer, right click the C: drive and click Properties.
Click the Security tab and click the Advanced button. Click the Owner
tab and select the new employee's username from the list below (Oh
yeah, the user has to be a member of the LOCAL administrator-if you
need help with that re-post) While new employee's username is
selected, check the box that says Replace owner on subcontainers and
objects. Click Apply and then OK. Ok out of all other boxes when
process has been completed.

SubInacl. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288292

or

subinacl /subdirectories c:\* /replace=Domain\olduser=Domain\newuser

or

subinacl /outputlog=c:\mytest2.log /subdirec=directoriesonly C:\*.*
/replace=SomeUser=SomeOtherUser /ifchangecontinue /noverbose /display
/testmode

The /testmode switch allows you to do a "test" run without making
changes, you can verify the outputlog to see what changes might be made
before actually proceeding and commiting to the changes.
