Tables with a mind of their own.

My website freespace.virgin.net/mr.jimscott mainly consists of pictures.
I don't like the way FP does picture galleries so I have links from
thumbnails to individual photos. This way folk with slow machines don't
have to wait long and I can make the dimensions whatever I want.
However what I usually want is the picture and its link buttons to load
on an 800 X 600 users screen with little or no overlap.
I do this entirely by using tables, preferably a single table.
This is where the problem arises. Sometimes I include several pictures
with odd and even number of cells - like this

What some times happens is that if I try and put the Bottom text "St
Andrew....... in the same row as the Back and Next buttons then it is
confined below the central picture. No matter how much splitting and
merging I do, I cannot prevent the margin of the middle cell from
'clicking' to the LH edge of the cell above with the big picture.
I know I can do it by starting a fresh table below, but then I lose the
ability to use the 100% height option.
Do I just have to compromise?

Create new a 1 row, 3 column table just for the Back button, Your Text and Next button
