Table styles in word 97

Hi,

Is there a way of controlling table styles in word 97? Is it possible to
modify the default table style?

The reason is that my body text paragraph has 6 points space after and 0
before. This looks nice when writing ordinary text. But in a table it does
not look nice. So I would like the the table style paragraph to have say 3
points after and before - can that be done?

Unfortunately, Word 97 doesn't support table styles. (Even if it did,
I don't think table styles can store paragraph formatting such as
Space Before and Space After. But I could be wrong.)

Instead, what you need to do is to create a paragraph style with (or
modify an existing style to have) the desired characteristics and then
apply it to the text in the tables.

If you already have multiple tables that need to be modified to
include this new or modified style, this might be a time-consuming
task. However, in order to accomplish future reuse of table
formatting, including the applied paragraph style, you can select an
existing table which is properly formatted and then create an AutoText
entry from it. (If you don't want the text in the table included in
the entry, of course you'll have to clear it first.)

Hi Stefan,

Thanks, but what I am looking for a default way of doing this, such that
uses will always have the same table format. The AutoText method could
work - but I know that sometimes the users press the Word Table Button or
use the Table menu and then ....

For now I'll simply redefine the paragraph setting for my Body Text Style to
have 3 pt. both after and before. That way it looks nice in tables too.

That seems like a perfectly good solution to the problem!
