Tab after Autocomplete moves cursor to new field

G

I'm trying to send an email to multiple uses.
What I expect is to type in a few letters of the first recipient's name,
then tab (which will autocomplete the name/address) and allow me to enter the
next person's name.

What Outlook is doing instead is completing the name upon hitting the tab
button, but then it moves the cursor to the next field (the CC: field)...

How do I set it so that it doesn't move from the TO: field to the CC: field
unless I hit the tab button twice?

You can't. Just click the name in the suggestion list to keep using
autocomplete in the To: field.

Russ,
Thanks for the quick response, but that doesn't quite answer my question. I
realized I may have left out something...

I can type in, for example...

SMI ... hit tab, autocomplete fills in (e-mail address removed), places a
semicolon after the completed address, and the cursor is then sitting there
next to that address.
I then type in PUB ... hit tab, autcomplete fills in (e-mail address removed),
places a semicolon after the completed address, and the cursor is still
waiting for the next entry...
I then type in my own name ... TAN ...hit tab, autocomplete fills in
(e-mail address removed) --- but no semicolon magically appears at the end of
my name/addresss and the cursor then automatically moves to the CC: field...

And it doesn't seem to matter which order I enter the names.. If TAN is
entered first, then a tab will autocomplete and move the cursor to the CC:
field.

I checked the properties of the JohnSmith and JohnQPublic cards and it
matches my own card perfectly.

I recently switched from a Dell 260 to a Dell 745, but I'm still running the
exact same Outlook -- MSFT Office Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8122) SP2 -- and this
was not an issue before?

Thanks in advance for any help

Sorry. Cannot repro your findings nor have I seen anyone else report it.
Is "TAN" by chance the only entry in the suggested names dropdown when you
hit Tab?

Actually, it's not even giving a dropdown...

First things first, when I got the new computer, outlook (autocomplete)
didn't seem to recognize any of these kinds of inputs...

"PUB" ... would not autocomplete at first. So I typed in the full
address... (e-mail address removed) .... no problem. I went to send a
subsequent email..
Type in PUB, see dropdown for (e-mail address removed), hit tab ...
autocomplete fills out (e-mail address removed), followed by a semi-colon, and
the cursor stays in place next to it.

I did the same thing for my own name... typed in (e-mail address removed)...
Subsequent email, TAN ... no dropdown menu appears (!!!), hit tab,
autocomplete fills out (e-mail address removed), no semi-colon afterwards,
cursor moves to the CC: field automatically.

There must be something corrupt with what the computer understands as TAN ...
I'll try and play with it some more, but if you guys manage to figure
something out, that would be great. Thanks for the taking the time to work
with me on this..
It's really quite frustrating!

No dropdown simply means you only have one match for what you typed in.
Autocomplete shouldn't do anything in a new installation. You haven't
populated your cache yet.

Well, I'm not sure that that would make any difference.
I've typed in (e-mail address removed) in full and now that's in the cash...
Typing in TAN and hitting tab will autocomplete the address, but again, this
is the only email in the entire cache that, upon tab, causes the cursor to
move to the CC: field.

JohnSmith and JohnQPublic -- which are also in the cache -- don't experience
the same problem upon tab.

Still haven't figured it out since yesterday...
Thanks again for your help

It makes a difference because solitary entries in the suggested names list
behave differently than multiple entries, especially in Outlook 2002.
