T or F? Just opening Outlook Express allows viruses/adware/spyware to load?

Hello all,

In the process of getting my Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer back from The Land of Needs to Close, I have heard that all kinds of yuckware can install itself simply by OPENING Outlook Express - that you don't even have to click on the email or open any attachments for your computer to become infected.

I was told that it's better to open an email account with Yahoo or Hotmail or Earthlink - that way, the yuckware lands in THEIR server, not mine....

Is this true? If so, is there anything that can be done?... or is it really best to go Yahoo/Hotmail/Earthlink/etc?

I'm heightening security on my PC (installing the router tonite!) and don't want to open Outlook Express if this is true.

Possible depending on settings. It used to be installed wide open but
maybe things have changed on new installs - LOL maybe not. I am forced
to use Outlook Express at work but I'll be dam**d if I will use the that
rude & crude crap at home.
