My daughter in law is using Windows XP Home Edition on her Dell Computer.
Outlook Express worked for her in the past however now it will not receive
nor transmit emails. The computer has no problem going on line with her ISP,
earthlink. I used add/remover windows components to unistall and then
reinstall both Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
Internet Explored works fine, but Outlook Express remains the same giving
the same error messages. I have checked OE settings with my laptop
settings - no luck.
Any suggestgions, please

What are the error messsages?
Have you enabled email logging?

Rick,
When you hit send/receive in the bottom right of the main Outlook Express
window, it will say connecting and then it says error. The message that
comes up is the one that states that zero of one tasks failed. It is the
same message that would occur if one was not connected to the internet and
was not "off line" and hit send/receive.
I'm not sure what you mean by "enabling email logging"?
Thanks for your interest. I had thought about doing a complete
re-installation of Windows XP, but the documentation provided by Dell was
not matching what I was seeing when I inserted the Dell provided, Windows XP
re-installation disk. A dialog box asked me if I wanted to do an upgrade
of Windows XP and I was hesitant to do anything and just aborted the
installation.

Reinstalling Windows is a bit "over the top" for an email problem.
Have you talked to earthlink?

Cheers,

Hi William,

Click tools/options/maintenance, then enable mail logging at the bottom. We
will need to see what the log shows. After an attempt to send/recieve mail,
you should find a file called pop3.log in her mail store folder (you can
just do a search for it if you are not sure where her mail store is). Open
this file in notepad, then copy/paste the contents into a reply. Please do
not send the log as an attachment.

Cliff and Rick,
I gave my grandson an old laptop and he is able to connect, receive, and
send emails using my daughters email address and password. I have ruled out
a problem with the server? Thanks again for your concerns and help. I will
do the "mail logging thing"
