Whenever I login (as any user), my Winnt\System32 opens. I have read the
MSKB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;170086

and I don't have a Creative Labs Audigy2 or it listed in my registry
Run.

I used to also get the folder to popup/open whenever I opened a new IE
window.

This all started to occur after I got a virus on my computer. I
successfully removed the virus and ran Ad-aware and Spybot. Now the
window no longer pops up whenever I open IE but it still pops-up
whenever I login.

I would appreciate any and all help with this issue.

Thank you,
Chad

Check the startup group and the run keys in the registry. You probably have
a program that only got partially deleted; i.e., the command to run it was
"C:\WinNT\System32\progname" but the program filename got truncated and now
the run command is just "C:\WinNT\System32" which will open an Explorer
window to that path.

Checking the shortcuts in the Startup menu is easy. For the registry run
keys, and since Windows 2000 doesn't include msconfig.exe, you can use the
msconfig.exe from Windows XP
(http://downloads.thetechguide.com/msconfig.zip) or Mike Lin's Startup
applet.

thank you, but as I mentioned in my post, I don't have the Audigy sound
card nor this entry in my registry.

Thank you so much for the link to download msconfig. With its help, I
found two entries at startup which would just launch C:\Winnt\System32.

The folder no longer appears.

The strange thing is, I saw these entries before under name (Default)
type REG_SZ_EXTEND but everytime I would delete them, they would come
back when Windows restarted. Now when msconfig deleted them, I still get
a (Default) value but with no Data set.

I am just happy it works now.
