My system32 folder opens every time I start windows xp. Read the artical
(system32 folder opens at startup, dated 11.16.2005) which was helpful in
finding the problem. Tried running the software suggested. but still couldn't
repair the problem. recieved an error message of, This script cannot repair
you issue, the expected Registry value was not found.

my registry reads as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
(default) reg_sz (value not set)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
(default) Reg_sz (value not set)

I'm not sure what to do next to fix this problem.

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by
an incomplete program removal, in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys. It can also
be caused by an entry in these same keys that starts with a " / ."

Hi, and thank you for the help.

I read the articels, but I'm still not sure what to do. I just don't want to
mess it up. My registry also has an extra line not shown here, that reads

(default) REG_SZ (Value not set)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER]
"PerfectFit Logical Syntax Characters"="\"*<>|"
"HTTP11SAVED"=dword:00000000
"HTTP11SAVED_VAL"=dword:00000000

I just want to verify what to delete, I fairly sure it's the on the
perfectfit logical line. Do i delete the entire kine or just the "="\'*<>|"
at the end? do I also delet the default line? On the other key it reads:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]
"InstallPath"="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\spool\\DRIVERS\\W32X86\\3"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE]

This regietry looks fine, except in my registry it has that same line that
reads
(Default) REG_sz (value not set) then below that line it
has the
Installpath REG_sz c:\windows etc...

Again, is this fine or should I delete the default line?

Again thanks for the help

Not sure if the registry is case sensitive and/or you have not correctly
typed the info. Whichever, the normal entry Type is REG_SZ, all upper case.

If this happens with "" where they should not be, perhaps it will also
happen with Reg_sz and reg_sz.

Hi,

You're only giving us part of what we need, that is the top level entries in
those keys, we need the entire contents. Please read the below instructions:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Click start/run or hit hte Winkey+r and type regedit, then click ok. Expand
the branches to each key (do this one at a time) by clicking the plus (+)
signs. Click on the key indicated above, then click file/export. Give it any
name, then save to the desktop. Once you have saved both keys, close the
registry editor. Right-click one of the saved files on the desktop, choose
edit, it should open in notepad. Click edit/select all/edit/copy. Open a
response to this post and click in the message text area. Hit ctrl+v to
paste the contents. Repeat for the other saved key, then send the post for
examination.

Hi,
just to let everyone know, I downloaded Windows defender and it found an
unwanted program. Once i disabled it, and rebooted xp, my system32 folder
didn't
open, and hasn't since. So, thanks

However, nothings changed in my registry, should I be concerned?
