System32 Corrupt

When I start my computer I get a message saying that my
System32\config\system is corrupt or missing

"Attempt to repair with the windows start up disc... blah blah blah!!!...."

When I bought my laptop, it did not come with a XP CD ROM... I called tech
support - It was completely useless... I downloaded startup disks and made 6
flopies, which are great!!! but my laptop does not have a floppy drive... Now
what do I do. Should I buy a new XP software

Thanks

Boot the system, start tapping F8 and continue to do so until the menu
appears. At the menu select "Last Known Good Configuration" and press
enter. If that doesn't resolve it, repeat the procedure but this time
choose Safe Mode and try to enter using the account named administrator. If
it asks for a password, assuming you never created one for this hidden
system account, leave it blank and press enter. In Safe Mode, you should
immediately be offered the option to use System Restore to try to take the
system back to a time prior to when this began.

If the above fails, without a retail XP CD or equivalent, your only option
is to use whatever recovery routine the manufacturer supplied. They are
required to give you a means of recovering your system, placing it factory
fresh condition. Check your documentation or contact their tech support.

Conversely, you can buy a retail version of XP matching your version, Home
Edition or Pro and use it to run a repair install.

Do you have a restore disk? Use it. Because computer manufacturers do not
include a operating software, they often supply a restore disk.
