system32\config\system corrupt

Hi,

My C:\Windows\system32\config\system file keeps becoming
corrupt. Any idea how I fix this? It doesn't look like a
virus problem as I have the most recent virus definitions
installed and a high security firewall. I have tried
restoring the system file with system.sav, but it just
tried to re-install windows and errored out on me. I have
tried re-installing windows over the top of my OS and then
running Windows Update and SP1 Express was cancelled(?). I
then restarted only to have the system file corrupted
again. I recently experienced a power failure and did
check the disk for problems and found no errors. I also
recently upgraded my SDRAM to DDR RAM. It doesn't seem
like these are the problems, but I am stumped. I have no
*easy* way of backing up my 20GB HDD, so I'd rather not
reformat. Any advice on how to create a new system
partition? I've got about 5GB free.

I will greatly appreciate any help you can provide!

I had the same problem. It was my memory that was causing the problem.
Would work ok for low load stuff, when I ran a game I got an error, when I
rebooted it was corrupt. Try running your memory at a slower clock speed.
I have RDRAM and I got two mismatched modules (Kingston) off Ebay. I called
Kingston, they sent a replacement that matched the newer of my modules and
all is fine now.
