SYSTEM32 - always in Windows?

Bill

Hello,
I am working with a user's machine that does not display having a
system32 folder in Windows[XPSP2 home]. There was one in this Dell
laptop in C:\i386 but it only had two files and not the usual
complement of many files and folders. Further, a formal search of C:
\Windows doesn't turn up a system32 folder. I tried to create one, a
few times actually, and was prompted by Explorer that it couldn't be
done as there was already such a folder! Got the impression the system
had a little voodoo going on.
Is there always a system32 folder in Windows in XP? Any thoughts on
the anomaly I was up against?
Thanks so much,
Bill

Normally hidden!
In Windows Explorer menu bar:
Select Tools/Folder Options/File Types tab
and click on 'Show hidden files and folders' option.

Thanks for replying. Can you imagine why it doesn't appear in that
directory yet when attempting to create it, that's denied? Could it be
somehow cloaked? I know this seems pretty odd.
Thanks

For some reason it might be hidden

Enable viewing hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer under the
Tools/Folder Options menu

System files are hidden by default. You can unhide them. In Windows
Explorer open the Tools menu and select Folder Options. You'll find the
option on the View tab.

Though true, System32 isn't usually one of them. However, if it was hidden
it wouldn't affect the operation of Windows.

I thought that the system32 folder is not normally hidden. However, your
disk must
have this folder if for no other reason that the entire operating system
operates out of
the folder. Thus, if your system works at all, it has a system32 folder.

The System32 folder is a hidden, system folder. You'll need to adjust your
Folder Options to see it, by default.

Not on my machine. It's visible when all hidden folders are still
hidden.

The System32 folder is a hidden folder on some if not on all OEM machines. Set it to show all files in your folder options
