System working like... not too well

My sisters computer with XP Home is suddenly working really badly. Word wont
start, can't open the remove/add item option, can't update, can't do nothing.
These things happen on the administrator profile but not another, which to
some degree indicate a self inflicted problem. Does anyone have an idea as
how to fix it?

More often than not it says some file is not working well. Rundll.exe seems
to be a popular dude when the error display message appears.

Please help, I'm going quite crazy trying to figure it out.

have you tried to go back to an earlier Restore Date when the computer was
running well? If not go to the Control Panel and click on "Help and support"
and it will guide you..

The comp. hasn't been in the mood for that. Have tried many different dates,
but it always says that nothing has been done at the end.

Have you done a thorough check for malware in safe mode using a current AV
program and a combination of anti spyware and adware programs?

What do you mean by the Administrator profile? Is this an account with
administrator privileges or the built in Administrator account? In XP Home
the built in Administrator account is only accessible in safe mode.

If it's an account with administrator privileges and it's only happening in
this one account, create a new account, test it, if it works ok, then copy
the data from the old account to the new and delete the old account.

First you need to make sure the system is clean of malware.

Try uninstalling some programs you don't need

Yes, its a an account with adm. privileges.

I'll try this copy thing you talk about. It sounds like a good idea.

Thanks.

The add/remove programs can't be accessed, so I kind of fear removing stuff
by simply deleting. Especially since the comp. seems annoyed with files and
missing files.
