System won't reboot after the last windows xp pro update.

Woke up this morning with a message on my screen that an update had been
installed on my computer which required a reboot. I have never had a problem
with windows updates before so I selected reboot. The reboot failed and I was
presented with the normal options screen "safe mode" " normal boot" " last
known good configuration" ect. ect. None of these options worked. I tried
using the installation CD recovery console "no success". but I am not to
familiar with this utility so I may be missing something to safely try. I did
however disabled the restart on a failed boot option and received the
following STOP: error# 0x000000f4. I searched MS knowlege base as suggested
but get no hits on this error. So how can I get to a previous good working
system either manually or Auto . Would selecting update option on the
installation cd get me back to were I was yesterday or is there a better way
safer way.

You have only provided part of the Stop Error message. More is required.

You should as a minimum get something like this:
STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x81FF7708, 0x81FF787C, 0x805FA7A8)

How many hard drives are installed? On which drive is Windows XP installed

Is the computer standalone or part of a network?

Is Goback installed?

Thanks Gerry,
You are right I ran it again and the entire stop error code is as follows:
STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003 , 0x85D5A860, 0x85D5A9D4, 0x805F9F88)

I have two hard drives installed.
First drive has two partitions c: and d: with windows installed on C:
The second drive has two partitions e: and f:.
I have even gone so far as to disconnect the 2nd drive but system still will
not reboot.
The computer is a standalone.
Goback is not installed.
