System will not shut down

When I got to shut down or restart the system it hangs. I
then get the message that the following processes are not
responding ( outlook, xpert message) Once I end these
tasks the system will then shut down.

I use a cable modem for email but not sure if this has
anything to do with it.

It is very annoying and I cannot find a fix on the
website.
Also I have all the up to date critical updates and
patches installed.
