I have a sata hard drive that is partitioned into 3 drives. (C,D and E)
In each of the drives there's a folded named "System Volume Information"
When I try to open it I get "System Volume Information is not Accessible"
I'm the only user using XP Pro. Can someone help me on this? Format is
NTFS.

Painless

Greetings --

The System Volume Information isn't something that normally needs
to be accessed, but there are occasions. Certainly, nothing there
should ever be manually altered. (I'm not 100% certain that it
"cannot" be altered, though.) This protected portion of the system
files certainly shouldn't be "handled" or accessed by someone who's
inexperienced, unless done as a learning experience with full
knowledge of the potentially dire consequences of a mistake.

Is there some particular reason you're trying to access this
information?

Curiosity mostly. How is one to learn. Should I mess it up.
Format and reload, won't be the first time.

You were one of those kids that kept teasing the cat even after it had
scratched you to within an inch of your very existence, weren't you?! ;o)

Please don't assume! All you have to say. Sorry work
it out for yourself.
I wouldn't ask for someone's help if I didn't need it.

True, experimentation's certainly a very good way to learn. As
long as you're prepared to pay the "costs" of your "lessons," have a
nut. ;-}

obviously failed to notice the ':o)' at the end?!

Windows XP Professional Using the NTFS File System on a Domain
1.. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
2.. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3.. On the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders.
4.. Clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the change.
5.. Click OK.
6.. Right-click the System Volume Information folder in the root folder, and then click Sharing and Security.
7.. Click the Security tab.
8.. Click Add, and then type the name of the user (ME) to whom you want to give access to the folder. Choose the account location if appropriate (either local or from the domain). Typically, this is the account with which you are logged on. Click OK, and then click OK.
9.. Double-click the System Volume Information folder in the root folder to open it.
Merry christmas to one and all
