System Tray

I recently downloaded some software that installed an icon into my system
tray, I have uninstalled the software but the icon in the system has not been
removed. It keeps popping up 'speech bubble' that takes me to a website when
clicked.

Any ideas on how to remove this icon.??
Thanks

Use MSCONFIG.EXE to disable programs running in the notification area.

Sounds like you may have some sort of Trojan. Download and run Spybot and
see what it shows.

What was the software? Possibly it installed some sort of malware.

Richard Harper’s Guide to Cleaning Pests

To eliminate a non malware program from running at startup the first step
should be to check in the options for the program you don't want to start
and see if there is a setting to tell it not to run at startup. The next
step is to remove any entries you don't want from the two startup folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

For anything else uncheck their entries in the startup tab of msconfig:
Start | Run | Msconfig | Ok

Another option is to remove the reference to them from one of these keys in
the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Make sure you have a backup of the registry using a program like ERUNT
before making any changes to the registry.

I can't remember the software name because I uninstalled already, but it was
basically an advert to purchase anti-spyware software. When I click the icon
in the system tray it takes me to the following website:

I have tried to contact those at the website but no joy.

Ok it was one of those rogue programs that cause problems, not solve them.
Follow the malware removal steps in the links I gave you. In particular go
through the steps on this one carefully.
