New XP machine--freshly imaged w/ sp1 and office2003 on
Intel motherboard. When it reboots, it gives us a cmos
time error. We checked the time in cmos, (fine) and load
defaults-- boots up ok. but the date is 12004 instead of
2004. If we change the year to 2004 either manually or
through time-sync, it reverts to the cmos error and we
start over again. At one point, we changed the year to
2004 and the time in our dhcp lease said 1933 or 1980. we
scanned for viruses and found nothing. anyone see this
before?

I think i know what i did-- the sm bus controller appeared
in device manager as undetected/unloaded. I ran windows
update and patched the machine BEFORE i installed the
chipset drivers. I think this is what did it -- i think
the bus controller controls the time. although i don't
know for sure! so any confirmation here would be great!

thanks
jason
