System Standy Failed

When I try to place my computer in Standby or Hibernate mode, I get the
following message:

The device driver for the 'Communications Port (COM1)' device is preventing
the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try
again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver.

I have Windows XP. I cannot find any drivers as it suggests looking for.

Any and all help will be most appreciated.

1) If not already, install SP2
2) Go to device manager, properties for COM port and check the option (Allow
the computer to turn off this device.....), IF the device has power
management options. If not on the COM port then check this in the device you
may have attached to COM1, like a modem, etc.
3) Also BIOS update may help if it is an internal problem.

Thank you for your response. I have SP2 installed already. I tried your
suggestions and still was not able to solve the problem, BUT, I did do some
more researching on this webpage and DID find another question similar to
mine and was able to complete the suggestion that was offered and now am able
to but system in standby/hibernation mode.

Again, thank you for your help.
