"System Standby Failed" Error - How to fix?

W

waynej

I upgraded from 98SE to XP last week. I am getting the
following message when the machine is ready to go to
standby. I don't know how to fix. Hints? Thanks.

-------------------------------------------------
System Standby Failed
Device driver for the 'ATI Technologies 3D RAGE IIC AGP'
device is preventing the machine from entering standby.
Please close all applications and try again. If the
problem persists, you may need to update this driver.

Your driver may be incompatible for the power saving modes of Windows XP. I
would check for the latest driver from the manufacturers web page or through
Windows Update. Also, you might check with the manufacturer of your
computer BIOS and upgrade that. An outdated BIOS can cause a conflict with
the power saving modes of Windows XP.
