System Standby doesn't work

None of the power saving options, except TURN OFF MONITOR, will work. TURN
OFF HARD DISKS, SYSTEM STANDBY, nor SYSTEM HYBERNATES will not work no matter
what delay time I enter.

The most likely reason is that your hardware doesn't support any other power
saving options. A big factor in this is age. Older hardware may not support
those options.

The power saving options used to work before I got a new Samsung LCD monitor.
Why should the new monitor have any effect on this?
