How to get Standby to work ?

R

Hard disk & monitor spring back after varying intevals of time, using first
start->turn off->standby, then later power management - enablilng power
switch
to effect standby. Have tried closing systray apps and turning off cable
modem. No success. The help files don't point to a trouble shooter for
standby. So far, haven't found solution in MS online. MS-KB has 12 entries
on the subject. None solve the prob. If that's due to
faulty searching, please supply a pointer, where to find...Suggestions
greatly appreciated.

Hi Rob,

Just a thought: I have Power Options | Power Schemes | Settings "NEVER" for
all four. Start | Turn Off | Standby works OK.

Good Luck.

Thanks, Andy, I also have NEVER times 4. Yesterday, standby worked as it
used to a week or so ago. Don't remember if I changed power settings before
trying standby - many things happening and options changes etc. For now, all
OK.

Fingers crossed, Rob?

Alas, Andy, a failure after I posted the above response. That was preceeded
by a botched shutdown. Maybe next time, standby ........! or ?

I guess the crossed fingers didn't work, Rob.
Have you tried "Hibernate"?

One success today, Andy. Not sure because I kept it in standby for only
20-30 minutes. It ends unpredictably at varying intervals. Haven't tried
hibernate for a month or two. Didn't like it, forget why. Thanks for your
inputs. The thing will probably just stop being ornery and behave, in time.
