System Sounds Don't Work

P

Peter

Hello,

I can play and listen to mp3's etc fine, but system
sounds are not working properly. Windows no longer plays
music at startup, when I adjust the volume using the
speaker in system tray, all it does it beep(using the
computers internal speaker). This is the same as when new
mail arrives in Outlook, just a beep instead of playing
the system sound.

I went through Troubleshooter, tried rolling back to a
previous sound card driver, then upgrading it again.
Still the same problem.

"Sound Scheme" is set to Windows Default in "Sounds and
Audio Devices Properties". And there are sound clips
associated with the prementioned events such as receiving
new e-mails.

Any idea why system sounds would just stop working?

Thanks,
Peter

Well I did a system restore to about a week ago when I
got a bunch of "Windows Updates". The sound is now fixed.
So if Windows Updates is breaking my sound, what should I
do...... Don't update windows? Wait for a full SP2 to be
released?
