System Shutdown

G

Glen

I keep getting shutdown while on the web. A window pops
up and says "SYSTEM SHUTDOWN" Then "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM",
and then RPC terminated "REMOTE PROCEDURE CALL". Cant
stay on the internet long enough to figure out the issue.
This usually happens about 3-5 minutes into the session.
Any help would be greatly desired.

This is caused by the Blaster worm or one of its
variants. Symantec has a scan/fix tool that will find
and remove the worms. You need to use FixBlast.exe and
FixWelch.exe from Symantec. Then make sure that you
install the patches for MS03-026 and MS03-039 which are
available by download or utilizing Windows Update.

The Blaster tool can be found here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w3
2.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html

The Welchia tool can be found here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w3
2.welchia.worm.removal.tool.html

The tool for W32.Blaster will find and remove the
executable, as well as point you to the location on
Microsoft's site for the RPC patch.
