system shutdown on connection

My friend has come accross a problem where if he were to
connect to the internet after a minute a screen would
popup and tell him the system will shutdown in 60 second.
Im not familiar with XP so i dont know what it could be
does anyone else know?

Try a System File Check. Start>Run type: sfc /scannow Have the
winxp cd in the cdrom drive.

You need the patch described here to protect against it:

Problem is, you needed to install the patch BEFORE you got infected to avoid
it.
