"System Shutting down..pls close all programs..initiated
by the NT authority system..RPC service terminated
unexpectedly"

I keep receiving this message then my machine reboots.
I'm running XP.

What's the fix?

Turn on your firewall, check for any known virus,
then visit Windows Update and get the machine
current on released service.
What you experience was patched quite some
time ago.

.The fix is to pay just a little more attention to
computer security,A person would have had to been on Mars
the last 4 months not to have heard about this.

I havent seen this since that blaster worm hit. You may want to check your machine for the blaster worm and then remove it and update your system if you havent done so already. In the meantime, Your machine is doing exactly what it is expected to do. By default when there is a problem with RPC the computer is instructed to shutdown or restart. To get around this you need to go into services which is in control panel, administrative tools and go to the properties of "Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Go to the "Recovery" tab and there you will want to change the values for failures to either "take no action" or "restart service". I would personally select restart service. Keep in mind that this is just a bandaid. My guess is that you have the blaster worm hiding somewhere on your system. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Greetings --

If you've connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabling a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and/or before
installing the KB824146 Hotfix, you're very likely to have been
infected from any of the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are
constantly broadcasting the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only
takes a few seconds of exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
