System Restore

I run ERUNT to automatically create a Registry backup at every startup. I
have noticed that System Restore no longer automatically creates a System
Restore point although all System Restore Registry settings are correct (re
Kelly's advice on the subject). I can manually force System Restore to
create a Restore Point. I have tried disabling System Restore, rebooting
and re-enabling, but without result.

Does ERUNT somehow prevent System Restore from working automatically?

Which advice was that based on, Edward?

The advice wrt to ensuring the Registry settings for System Restore
are set to allow automatic creation of a Restore Point at startup (2
keys). The advice was in response to a question by another OP.

I will reinstall System Restore in accordance with your suggestion,
i.e. installing the sr.inf file. Hopefully that will solve any
problem that may exist.

While writing this I have checked System Restore and note a Restore
Point was created automatically today but the two points I created
yesterday to test the 'system' are no longer shown. I confess I don't
understand this.

I assume that as a Restore Point has been created, the System Restore
files are healthy and I assume that insufficient 'space' is being
allocated for the System Restore files (I'll need to check). However,
if that is the case I don't understand how two restore points were
displayed yesterday. If space is the root of the problem FIFO protocol
would suggest that two points should still be shown.

Your kind advice is appreciated.

No. But you may have turned off the Task Scheduler - and auto
generation of SR points depends on that being active, even though it
does not show as a scheduled task. Control Panel - Scheduled Task,
Advanced Menu. If it says 'Start Using. . .' click that so it says
Stop using, and exit

Thanks for the response Alex but I don't quite understand. I've opened
Control Panel-Scheduled Task but don't see 'Advanced Menu' only and icon for
Scheduled Tasks. However, by clicking the icon and going to System Restore
in the Scheduled Task list I note that none of the Restore Point intervals
are checked, all boxes are empty. For System Restore to work do I need to
select and interval for a Restore Point to be made. If I do, I assume that
when WINXP is originally installed an interval, either daily or at Start up
etc, is selected by default. Is that correct? If it is I have not changed
anything yet there is no SR interval selected. I have looked at other
activities under Scheduled Tasks and note no interval is selected for any
yet other scheduled tasks, such as checking updates for BHODemon, operate
correctly at each start up.

I have checked 'Services' and Task Scheduler is set to automatic

I have followed Kelly's advice and reinstalled SR but no SR restore point
interval is selected under Scheduled Task.

Your comments will be appreciated.

Then there is something wrong with the Task scheduler installation. If
you open the Control Panel Applet there should be the usual menu bar at
the top, including Advanced.

If you have XP Pro, Start - run
gpedit.msc

Open User Configuration - Admin Templates - Task Scheduler and in the
right pane see if 'Hide Advanced Properties' has got turned on; though I
think that is primarily aimed at something else, it may affect this too

Have done as you suggested. 'Hide Advanced Properties' was 'Not
Configured' which I changed to 'Disabled'. When I went to Task
Scheduler to check there was no change. Perhaps the Task Scheduler
installation is damaged, as you suggest. I have run 'sfc /scannow'
but that produced no change. Can I reinstall Task Scheduler, if so
how?

Thanks for your kind advice.
