When trying to restore my computer I discovered that System restore is not in
the Accessories - system tools. I just reinstalled XP Professional. In the
system Properties the System Restore is being monitored.
How do I get it back?

See if you can start System Restore by going to Start > Run and typing

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe [click OK]

If that works, right click on Start and click Open All Users.
Navigate to the System Tools folder and right click in an empty area and
choose New Shortcut. In the Create Shortcut Wizard, browse to rstrui.exe
(at the above location) and name the shortcut System Restore.

My system crashed and did an install without reformating the hard drive. I
didn't want to loose all the data.

What caused the crash?

What anti-virus application or security suite was installed when the
computer (?) crashed and was your subscription current? Was the computer
running WinXP SP3 and was it fully-patched at Windows Update when the crash
occurred?

OK What happened was the following. I got a new upgrade for Network Magic
(Cisco) and could not install it, and also the new version of AVG 8.5 - after
many email it appears that something was wrong with XP Pro SP3. So we
determined that the best course of action was to reinstall XP. Whichi I did
and then all the programs installed fine. I put all my other programs in and
the only thing I discovered when I tried to set a restore point that that
folders was missing. I got it back by creating a new folder(System Restore)
in System tools and then pointing properties to the the correct folder in
System32\ restore\rstrui.exe. Everything works OK now. I believe it was
caused by Network Magic.
Thanks
