Hi

No - SR doesn't monitor data files - so your music, video files will be OK.
SR will restore system files + the Registry entries.

Depending on your problem, use the SR checkpoint before any problems
started.

This page will walk you thorugh the process.
All About System Restore in WinXP

An Undo restore point will be created during the restore process.
There's no need to create another.
my problem started almost one year ago, I do not know the exact date

System Restore is most effective when used immediately after a problem
is discovered. More than a week or so can cause more problems than it
solves.

What type of problem are you experiencing?
At the time of the problem I also think I had a virus, if I restore
will I
get the virus back??

If you suspect there is a restore point that contains a virus, then I
suggest scanning the system with up to date antivirus software. You will
find several suggestions on the following page.
Virus and Spyware removal and prevention steps:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/spyware.html

If a virus is found within the System Volume Information folder (where
restore points are held) then System Restore can be turned off, then on
again. This will delete all existing restore points.

You should only use System Restore to back a week or 10 days at the
most. If your problems are a year old then we need to find some
other means of overcoming them.

Please post a more complete description of your specific symptoms and
we will see what we can do to help you to resolve these issues. Also
please include the names of the antivirus and antispyware software
that you are using and what type of firewall you have.

Good luck
