System Restore

Hi

That error message would suggest that one or more of the System Restore
files have become corrupt. You can try turning SR off/on, although you will
lose all existing checkpoints:

Right click on My Computer and select Properties>System Restore. Enable
'Turn off System Restore on all drives' - then reboot your PC. Go back into
SR and disable 'Turn off...' and then reboot again. After the second reboot
you should have one new checkpoint and SR should work properly after that.

If you need to run System Restore and can't regardless of why, then you
need to either Repair Windows XP version, or reinstall and reinstall Windows
XP.

Turning off System Restore and turning it back on, won't fix your
current problem.

How dou you repair Windows XP version?

Hi,

Reinstalling Windows is last resort.

As Will suggests, the majority of the time this is caused by corrupt restore
point(s) and disabling SR will delete all existing restore point and repair the
problem. Running SR in Safe Mode is another option.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to take when System Restore fails to
restore:

Hi Bert,

You are missing the point. The User tried using System Restore to fix a
problem. System Restore didn't / doesn't work, maybe corrupt, but deleting
all the System Restore Points isn't going to fix the problem for using
System Restore in the first place. The problem is going to be still there
after fixing the problem with System Restore, cause the System Restore
points are gone.

You must install Windows XP Service Pack 2 before you can use Windows
Update. Also you must install the tool to validate your copy of Windows
after upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2, before you can begin to
reinstall all the Windows XP Patches.

I'm not missing the point a all. The reason for wanting to perform the restore
was never mentioned in this thread. Your *assuming* the unknown problem requires
a repair install. A repair install is rarely the first step in repairing a
system. This clearly indicates a lack of troubleshooting skills.

Hi Bert,

Have you ever run across this background process?
http://home.comcast.net/~thecreator/Video8.wmv

The type in From when composing a message would jump from Normal to Bold
to Normal to Bold and keep repeating. If it just occurred a System Restore
fixing the problem. But the last time, it occurred, I had just installed a
Trial Copy of Diskeeper. Then I uninstalled Diskeeper. After I uninstalled
Diskeeper and using it System Restore failed to work, so I restored an image
of the operating system.

Know what might cause this jumping, because it has happened before.
