When I try to restore nothing happens after I have selected a date and start
confirm restore point. What is stopping it from starting the restore?

Never tried that. Is this safe to do and how? I am kind of new at this.

before you boot into windows you should get a boot menu and or the option to
press the f8 key. when you press the f8 key, the booting into windows is
paused so that you can select an alternative method of booting. Safe mode
booting is used to fix windows. Safe mode loads windows files only and omits
any drivers or special softwares that are not system files. Sometimes there
is software installed in windows that starts up and controls windows usually
in a positive way but can be in a negative way as well. In safe mode you can
simply remove the bad software or restore your windows to a point you think
was a safe time and a good working windows.

If you think wndows recently screwed up because of a recently installed
program you can check to see if it is starting up. If so you can disable it.
go to">" start > run > msconfig > startup tab > disable anything that you
think is causing the problem

On the other hand, you may feel more confident in simply finding a good
restore point and avoid the msconfig method.......
