System Restore

I was having a problem yesterday with a virus, and I was told to turn off
Windows Xp System Restore. I went in to my Computer and clicked on Properties
and went to the System Properties and clicked on System Restore tab and
turned it off. Fixed my problem and went back to Properties again to restore
it and the Tab for System Restore was no longer there. How can I get this
back.

Am I understanding you right? You can't get the old restore points back if that's what you want. By turning off system restore you clean out all the old restore points. Turning restore back on will let you start saving points again.
If the tab itself is missing perhaps the virus was to blame. You can try this to restore the missing tab.

In order to restore your system restore tab, you will need to edit the registry. Be sure that you make a backup copy of the registry prior to making any changes.

Go to Start>> Run. Type in: regedit [Enter]

Navigate to the following registry key;

HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore

Single click once on the entry; "SystemRestore" to empty its contents into the right pane.

Find the entry "DisableSR", right click on it and delete it.

good luck

Hi,

Disabling System Restore before removing virus is a mistake and will not
remove an active virus. If something goes wrong in the virus/malware
removal process you will have no way to reverse your actions. Sometimes
the removal process can be more damaging to the system than the
infection. Two examples would be if the system became unbootable, or if
the ability to connect to the internet to retrieve additional cleaning
utilities is lost. So it is a good practice to leave System Restore
intact until the cleaning process is over.

You will now want to make sure the virus has been successfully removed.

Thanks Bert...... I couldn't find my SR tab due to a group policy problem
and followed your advice on SR tab restoration. It worked.
Thanks again
