Try opening system properties, system restore tab, turn off restore, exit
properties,then go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to
restart,then type:EXIT Restart computer,back in xp,turn on restore in
properties,
open restore in tools, set a current restore date/time.
There are viruses that are known to have this effect. See MVP Bert
Kinney's System Restore pages: http://bertk.mvps.org/index.html
especially the "System Restore fails" section.
Good luck

Andrew, you are an idiot and I wish you would stop spreading your
incomplete, misleading, and sometimes dangerous comments on these
newsgroups.
System Restore should *not* be disabled on a computer that has a
possible virus/trojan/spyware infestation until after the malware has
been removed. Then it can be turned off and then back on again so as
to purge any malware related files from the restore data.
