System Restore

the system restore function will not work. It has always
worked for the past 2 years and just the past few days it
no longer works. I can make a restore point but if I
shut down the computer the restore point is gone. I sure
would like to have some help to get the system restore
working.

Go>start\run and type in sfc /scannow . You will have
to have your XP disk handy and put it in the drive when
it asks for it. Be sure to put the space after sfc .
System File Check will check for missing or corrupt XP OS
files and replace them with the original ones off the
disk.

1. Insert the Windows XP CD
2. Click [Start] [Run]
3. Type the following command and press Enter
"rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf"

System Restore core files should be reinstalled.
Alternately, you may also open Windows Explorer, navigate
to "C:\Windows\Inf" folder and right-click sr.inf (choose
Install).

Sometimes the S/R folders become corrupted and the only
way to correct it is to turn S/R off. This will delete all
of your checkpoints along with the corruption, reboot and
turn S/R back on again,to see if S/R is able to create
auto checkpoints after you restart it reboot a second
time, once it boots up their should be a checkpoint
