If your computer is fairly new and did not come with
restore CD's: it has a "hidden partition" on the hard
drive. They do that to save money on the CD roms needed;
just to "save" $2.00.

Have you tried tapping the "F8" key while restarting? You
can get to "safe mode" from there, providing no critical
data was lost. Youll also have an option presented to use
the "Last configuration that worked"....choose that option
first if it's presented, that usually does the trick.

If you can't get to safe mode: check out the documentation
that came with your machine for instructions on how to
access that "hidden partition" which has the software to
re-install windows. If not: call their tech support and
they'll help you find that "hidden partition" or give you
the option of purchasing restore CD's at a nominal cost.
HP charges $10.00...I don't think there'd be much
difference between companies. You've already paid for the
license (99% of the license cost is the software) to the
operating system when you purchased the machine...all you
need are the disks, which are the cheapest part.
