System Restore won't work

I have two machines with XP Home Edition/SP2 that syddenly arent't able to
sytem restore to an earlier time. They go through all the motions, but at
re-boot happily inform me that they weren't able to do the requested sys
restore. Since these two machines recently upgraded to Explorer 7, which is
shaky at best, not being able to restore to a time prior to that bad decision
is not good.

Turn off system restore, boot and thrn turn it on again.
They may have gotten corrupted. a backup is better than a restore.
