When i try to use the "system restore wizzard" from the "system tools" menu,
i get the following message.

"System Restore Application "
"System restore application has encountered a problem and needs to close. we
are sorry for the inconvenience."

it goes on to offer me oppertunity to tell Microsoft about it.
Can anyone help me find my lost wizzard?\

Thanks...

Try turning off system restore and reboot, then turn it back on.
If that doesn't help there is a registry edit here"
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

"Restore system restore" I don't know what line number it's on look around
for it.

When i try to access the "System Restore" tab from the Systems Properties
menu, I get a "Rundll" error message, Quote " An exception occured while
trying to run "D:\windows\system32\shell32.dll, Control_Rundll
"D:\windows\system32\sysdm.cpl",system" , end Quote.

also, line #289 "Restore system restore" from Kelleys-Korner did not help.

Any other suggestions?

I also ran into this, apparently as a result of upgrading xp pro from sp1 to
sp2, or as a result of some other windows update. I haven't had to use SR on
this machine, as it has been reliable, but I wanted to set a restore point
prior to an experiment after installing sp2 and got the same symptoms when I
tried to run SR, except the error notification did not offer to send info to
MS (because I have error reporting disabled). I also got the same error when
trying to access the "System Restore" tab from the Systems Properties menu.

None of the suggestions here worked, but reinstalling system restore did. Go
to \windows\inf, right-click on sr. inf and select "install." It will
complain about files it can't find because it is looking for them on the CD.
Use Search to find the files and browse to that directory in each instance
and it should work after you reboot.
