System Restore Won't Open

G

Guest

Haven't had to use System Restore for some time now so I decided to look at
my restore points to see if they were up to date. Well to my surprise the
program wouldn't even open. I get the standard error message that states
"System Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience." I then check the "Send Error Report" to
send the report.

Would anyone have any suggestions other than reloading Windows?

Found the same instructions in the Knowledge Base and tried that
earlier....got the same error indication. I have the
error report saved from the Event Viewer if it would help. Thanks for
the info....

Go ahead and post the contents of the error from event viewer. Maybe
someone will have an idea when they see it.

Tried to enclose the info but it was too much data.....too long. Maybe
someone will supply an E-Mail for me. Thanks again for the help!

Sorry folks here don't normally do email support - I know I don't. I'm not
sure why you say it's too long. You can copy and paste it.

How to View Event Details
To view the details of an event, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and
Maintenance, then click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer
Management. Or, open the MMC containing the Event Viewer snap-in.
2. In the console tree, expand Event Viewer, and then click the log that
contains the event that you want to view.
3. In the details pane, double-click the event that you want to view.

The Event Properties dialog box containing header information and a
description of the event is displayed.

To copy the details of the event, click the Copy button, then open a new
document in the program in which you want to paste the event (for example,
Microsoft Word), and then click Paste on the Edit menu.

Rock......Oops, I tried sending the Dr. Watson event and that was what was
too long. Am including below the Application Error event....maybe this will
help.

Thanks again......Sonet

Ok, maybe Bert Kinney or someone else will see this thread and have some
suggestions. I'm not sure what instructions in what KB article you were
talking about earlier and what troubleshooting steps you took that were in
Bert's page. Have you tried reinstalling system restore?

Bert Kinney

Hi Sonet,

Will System Restore open in Safe Mode?

Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to start
your computer in Safe Mode.

Log on to an administrator account. In Safe Mode type or paste the following
command in the Start - Run box then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Bert,

No it would not work in the safe mode. I tried every way possible to open
the exe file and kept getting the same indication.

But I have had other problems develop so I just decided to to do a clean
install and start over. Sorry to be so late about my answer but have been
busy with the reinstall and am just now getting around to catching up with
the backlog. Everything is running fine now....but thanks for the help
anyway. Will keep all the info for future use if this resurfaces.

Thanks again.....Sonet
