system restore & System volume info

I can not access system restore at all. After alot of
digging and reading in the knowledge base, I looked at
the system volume information folder and noticed that the
_restore{558C94FD-367F-4954-A02D- 26679E6D849E} folder no
longer exists. I understand this is where the restore
points are stored.
What action can I take to get it back or can I....will it
help? Why is it gone?

Why are you trying to access that folder? Have you got a problem with
System Restore?

Started with corrupt scritpting engine. Was told to
reload Win XP. Wanted to creat restore point and backup,
but can't access it. Have tried everything offered in
the knowledge base and nothing has worked. After we get
to this point I stop getting responses. Any ideas will
be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi

Some of the SR files could have become corrupted. If you can, try turning
SR off/on to see if that helps - but you will lose any existing checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After
that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all
drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one
new SR checkpoint.

I have done this a thousand times, doesn't work.
