System restore saved my butt

I was looking for photos of Penelope Cruz (decent photos - honest!) when I
was attacked by lots of spyware and viruses.

My PC is well protected. It has Norton 2005 AV, MS Antispyware (beta) and I
run Ad Aware at least once per week. But the attacks worked.

My PC was inoperable. Whenever I booted I was greeted with "TCP/IP Network
transport is not installed" which stopped me connecting to the Net. My PC
also ran like treacle and I had lots of shortcuts on my desktop to various
websites (including one called "Remove Spyware").

I logged in as another user which still caused a TCP/IP error but at least
it ran correctly (offline). So I ran NAV and MS Spyware and AdAware. Viruses
and spyware were found and removed - but my PC still would not connect to
the Net nor run properly.

But system restore saved my ass. And saved me from a repair installation
(would that have cured my problems?).

I think it would be a good idea to download "winsockfix.exe" from http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257 and keep it handy in case it happens again. It worked brilliantly for me.
